Dancing last night was awesome. We did more foxtrot, waltz and cha cha. They taught us to turn in the waltz and I can do left turns easy but right turns are causing me (and Gav!) some problems so we'll be practicing them. In cha cha they taught us how to turn out of hold and do side by side steps, so much fun, it's like a party when we're doing cha cha and I love it! Could dance it all night! Can't wait for next week!

Tonight is Zumba class at the gym...feeeear. I'm kinda really looking forward to it...it is just more latin dancing after all, but it's not yanno, learning a dance it's just jumping in there and doing a load a choreographed routine that you have to pick up over time but I'm sure it will be buckets of fun. Everyone I've spoken to who has done it has said how awesome it is and that it is very addictive.

Made the mistake of wearing my new hot pink vinyl kitten heels to dancing last night, I adore those shoes and I looked really nice but I ended up with black rubber marks all over them from Gav standing on my feet or me kicking his feet when we got the right hand waltz turns wrong. Luckily the rubber marks came off with a little assistance from a pencile raser when we got home but still...won't be doing that again! Will stick with leather shoes which don't mark so well!!

Trial veggie month is going well and definitely helping us make best use of our twice monthly organic Abel & Cole fruit & veggie box. I have been making all sorts of yummy things.

At the weekend I harvested our butternut squash as it was finally ripe. OMG it is ENORMOUS! It weighs 9lb 7oz (4.3kg) and is taller than a wine bottle and about 3 times as fat! It weighs the same as a chunky newborn baby boy ffs!! Haven't eaten it yet but have tucked it away in the big cupboard to store for a bit. Might start it at the weekend. Abel & Cole sent us a butternut on Monday as well so a bit swamped with that! Used the one they sent us last night to make butternut cake which is DIVINE.

Really cold here atm, ice on the cars yesterday and today...today especially and it said -1 in Stephi's car when I got in for my lift this morning! Brrrr!

Picking Felix up tomorrow, hurrah! Totally loving seeing him every other weekend and can't wait til we move to Southampton or surrounding villages (soon! we are looking for jobs down there as we are now only on 1 months notice for house and both our jobs so we could move before the end of the year if the right jobs came up!) so I can hopefully see him every day, it will be awesome to be able to pick him up from nursery/school and look after him if M is at Uni or wants to go out or something or even just have him round for supper a few times a week or whatever and still have him stay at the weekends. Can't wait!! So excited!

Anyway, this was supposed to just be a quick squeal about dancing and it's got long! Oops!

RED LETTER DAY!!

Well, yesterday was.

Finally fulfilled my 10 year ambition of learning to dance. yes, I attende dmy VERY FIRST ballroom & latin class!!!! SOOOOOOOo hyped! I learnt the waltz, the foxtrot and the cha cha and I am officially in love and addicted!! Want to go back today but have to wait til next week! after we got home Gav & I were dancing round the car park in the dark practicing waltz turns. Goodness knows what the neighbours thought but who cares!

Just had to share that. I have been rubbish updating I know but I have a journal in another place that I use everyday now instead. That's a specific journal though, supposedly, so I should use here for the general stuff but I don't, I use the other journal for specific and general! Oops! I will try and use this one more often though. Maybe I'll add it to the New Years resolution list to replace dancing next year!

I've been meaning to post an entry for a while now, but every time I came to do it I couldn't think of anything positive to write so I gave it up as a bad idea as negativity is bad. But I thought I should finally write something at least.

My Dad is doing fine, his grafts are healing nicely and he is starting the physio to get the movement back, so that's good.
My Grandad is also, finally, out of hospital. The doctors are pleased with the progress of his vein grafts and circulation but only time will tell if his heel will now heal. Fingers crossed it does as a foot amputation would be disasterous.
Other areas of life are not going so great. The post I made about being h-a-p-p-y can, I think, be reversed. Or at least put on hold for now. Maybe for always. We'll see. I am still hopeful.
I saw Felix last weekend, was awesome. We went to Portsmouth, swimming at The Pyramids and then to Playzone. Much fun was had by all. Seeing him again for the long weekend, awesome.
Today we're off to the Flamstead Scarecrow Festival, hopefully will be as cool as last year. Weather looks ok anyway.

Better go and get up and do chores now anyway.

Simple Woman's Daybook 7

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is hot hot hot and also quite windy. The trees are whooshing about quite a bit.
I am thinking... of too many things that are making me sad but also how relieved I am about them. I am also thinking about my Dad who is in hospital and has just come out of his 2nd operation on his arm.
I am thankful for... my Dad having walked away pretty scott-free given how bad it could have been.
From the kitchen...pork belly with oriental glaze, potatoes and veggies yesterday, lamb curry and rice this evening.
I am wearing... brown checked TopShop trousers as previously mentioned, back Red Herring gypsy style top (but not off-shoulder) with red, blue and green flowers embroidered on it, black jewelled flip flops
I am creating... plans!
I am going... home in 2.25 hours, to see my Dad in hospital in a few days, to give blood tomorrow.
I am reading... One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer (again).
I am hoping... that my dad will be a-ok
I am hearing... someone further down the office swearing at a printer
Around the house... all is well and peaceful
One of my favorite things... having the Interwebs at home again
A few plans for the rest of the week... work, seeing my Dad, collecting Felix, giving blood, seeing my Grandad, maybe seeing Virginia & Damien
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...If I could upload it would be a picture of the lovely walk we had at Coombe Hill last weekend

My Dad crashed his car on the M5 on Saturday evening/. No one knows what happens except that he must have nodded off. He woke up to a massive bang and the car rolling multiple times. The car is a write off, completely totalled. My Dad has been very luck, all things considered. He managed to not hit any other cars or flip on to the wrong side of the road (he was in the fast lane doing about 65mph and it was at about 3pm so not deserted) and he has only one real injury and that is to his elbow. He was in theatre under general for 2 hours on Saturday night whilst they cleaned him up and he is back inm theatre again right now as they are grafting skin and flesh from his upper arm to fill the 4"x4" hole he has in his lower arm by his elbow. Fingers crossed he will be ok. So worried.

Simple Woman's Daybook 6

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark and grey and gloomy and drizzley, but it is also very humid and warm
I am thinking... that today is really dragging and I am very very sleepy
I am thankful for... there only being 9 days left until I get to see Felix again!
From the kitchen...yesterday we failed and got take-out. Tonight I am making lasagne and possibly also green tea cupcakes.
I am wearing... brown checked TopShop trousers as previously mentioned, top which looks like a black shirt with tiny white pinstripes underneath a black tank top but is all actually just one garment, brown boots.
I am creating... plans!
I am going... home in 1.75 hours
I am reading... One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer (again).
I am hoping... that the rest of the day goes past faster!
I am hearing... someone having a very loud phone conversation
Around the house... the butternut squash plant has taken over pretty much the whole garden and it still growing! wtf? We have returned our coffee table and rug to storage at Gav's parents house as we need more room for the Wii Fit!
One of my favorite things... is deciding we're too tired to cook so vegging with take-out and wine
A few plans for the rest of the week... work, work, work, maybe Silly Friday with Virginia on Friday
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...If I could upload it would be a picture of the funky black & yellow ladybird that we found last weekend

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it si BAKING hot - 31 degrees when I went out at lunchtime!!
I am thinking... about lists! Lots of lists!
I am thankful for... everything going smoothly and pain-free at the Doctor yesterday and not feeling bad afterwards either, and also for the fact that I have just finished my antibiotics and am feeling great :)
From the kitchen...on Wednesday night I made mocha chocolate chip cupcakes and last night we went to see an open air production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and so took a picnic - Boursin sandwiches, spicy bean dip (homemade) with cheesy crackers, scotch eggs, cupcakes, strawberries and cream and Pimm's! Tonight it's a BBQ!!
I am wearing... my Las Vegas dress....this is a dress that I bought from TKMAXX especially for when we went to Vegas, white cotton, just below knee length, v front with a tie round the middle and short sleeves. It is hand printed with flowers, butterflies, hearts etc in red, organe and green outlines.
I am creating... a list!
I am going... home in 2 hours to have a BBQ and Silly Friday with Virginia
I am reading... Stronghold by Melanie Rawn (still), One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer (again) but no longer Wicked! by Jilly Cooper as I finished it.
I am hoping... that as the first step went so well then everything else goes ok from now on too!!!
I am hearing... comparative silence as it is Friday so most people work from home.
Around the house... the garden is wilting despite twice daily watering, the rats are on emergency Carefresh as I have run out of Finacard, the snails are getting BIG
One of my favorite things... is planning and platting and also Silly Fridays with Virginia!
A few plans for the rest of the week: seeing Virginia for awesomeness and BBQ tonight, roasting in the predicted 32 degree heat tomorrow and just chilling allllllll weekend. Maybe a trip to eat lunch out somewhere, maybe not! Who knows!
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...If I could upload it would be a picture from the open air performance last night.
